Kelly Baugher creates a spellbinding tale in Finding Lilies. Readers will enjoy an emotional trip through several spicy and socially revealing scenes. They will be shown the raw horror of society and be uplifted by the power of love. The humanitarianism of the main character, Blake, provides hope that a difference can be made by one individual.
This is a story of a domineering mother who is so desperate to keep her own inner demons silent that she schemes for years to keep Jackson and Blake apart. At times, it is so frustrating the reader will want to grab Jackson and shake him very, very hard. So heart wrenching, you will shed tears over little Hayden and worry about the other children Blake so desperately wants to help.
Finding Lilies is a story of discovering forgiveness through understanding a story about the strength of a love that weathers the raging storms. It is a tale of grief and loss, of overcoming obstacles and letting no-one stand in the way. Perfect for a day with no interruptions trust me, you will not want to put the book down!
My Thoughts:
In Finding Lilies, you can feel the love Jackson and Blake have for each other is strong, but your heart breaks for both of them when it seems as though that love isn't enough to keep them together. Jackson and Blake are characters that stay with you long after you finish the book. The plot is complex and the characters are solid. Kelly Clark Baugher takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride with this heart wrenching story. I look forward to reading more stories by Ms. Baugher.
Blake Adams is a plucky girl who is convinced that she needs to turn her back on her one true love. We see her struggle against the troubles life throws at her from her mothers lingering death from cancer to her harrowing career as a social worker. In the end she chooses to live life her own way leaving everything behind including her beloved but forbidden love Jackson… or so she thinks.
Jackson is a man born with a silver spoon in his mouth but all his privileges mean nothing to him once he lays eyes on Blake. But fate and a drunken mistake mean that he has to leave her and live up to other obligations in his life. Like Blake, Jackson is torn between love and dutywith a little deception thrown in to keep him from chasing for his heart's desire until it is almost too late.
Most love stories are about the process of finding 'the one' and falling for them. But for Blake and Jackson falling in love is easy, staying together is hard. Family disapproval and a drunken error leave them separated and committed to other people. Family, careers and new lovers propel the reader through chapters full of heart rending decisions. It just seems that fate is set on keeping these two apart no matter how much they want to be together.
'Finding Lilies' starts a little slowly but builds up to be an engaging tale of love found, and lost, and found again. This story is well written, richly detailed but perhaps just a little overwrought in places. I would recommend it as a great book to spend a lazy afternoon with, just remember to keep a few tissues at hand!
